Grain storage in the malting plant
Until it is processed into malt, fresh barley is stored in storage tanks with a height of up to 20 meters (65.6 ft). Freshly kilned malt is suitable for brewing after being stored in silos for several weeks. Filling the silo causes strong dust generation. The product surface is continuously changing because of vessel filling and emptying.
Level measurement with VEGAFLEX 62
The guided microwave measuring principle is independent of product characteristics, such as humidity, dust or noise generation or the shape of the product surface. Easy adjustment without vessel filling is the big advantage of using guided microwave technology. A discharge force of 3 tons on the cable is no problem for VEGAFLEX 62. Even product adhesion does not affect the measuring accuracy. Needless to say, the sensor meets the requirements of Dust Ex Zone 20 1/2D.
Level detection with VEGAVIB 61
Beside continuous level measurement in grain silos, blockage and low level alarm systems are also common. Tuning fork switches are often used for such alarm systems. However, there is a risk of grain getting stuck in the fork and causing faulty switching.
The vibrating level switch VEGAVIB 61 is the ideal solution for detecting the maximum and minimum volume in the silo. The single rod switch principle assures high reliability, because there is no place where the product can adhere to the rod – faulty switching is thus precluded.
