An internal source of energy
The gas that arises in the digestion tower is stored in gasometers and used to cover part of the energy requirements of the plant.
Switching commands, e.g. to control gas motors, heating or torching, are actuated on the basis of data from level measurements. These level measurements must therefore provide reproducible and accurate results.
Level measurement using VEGAPULS 66
Due to the methane gas that is created in the digestion process, a measuring principle is required that operates without being influenced by changing gas concentrations and fluctuating pressure. The non-contact VEGAPULS 66 radar sensor is the ideal solution for this non-routine measurement task. Completely independent of the process conditions and density of the wastewater sludge, it reliably detects the surface of the medium. The low emission frequency makes the measuring system insensitive to sudden foam generation in the digestion tower.
Level detection with VEGACAP 64 ensures reliable max. signal
Since heavy buildup on instrumentation in the digestion tower is usually expected, the electrode of VEGACAP 64, which is quite insensitive to buildup, is well suited for this measurement task.
Even centimetre-thick encrustations and buildup on the sensor do not impair the proper functioning of this measuring system.
